Graveborne/Pure Negativity/Nykta/2011 CD Review

Graveborne are a band from Finland that plays a very dark and heavy form of black metal with a melodic edge and this is is a review of their 2011 album "Pure Negativity" which was released by Nykta.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being thrown in at times, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound that utilizes dark riffing.

Rhythm guitars range slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffing that is very dark, raw and melodic sounding at times and you can hear the 90's black metal style in the riffing as well as a slight thrash edge and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on the recording, as for the classical guitars which are used briefly on one song they use finger picking to enhance the darkness of the music.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with some deep growling being used at the end of the last song, while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism and Darkness, as for the production it has a very heavy, dark and powerful feeling to it.

In my opinion Graveborne are a very good satanic black metal band with a melodic and atmospheric edge which they do not have to resort to keyboards or synths to create atmosphere and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nocturnal" "Dark Matter" and "Sinister Moon". RECOMMENDED BUY.
