Grond/Winterkrieger/Folter Records/2000 CD Review

Grond where a 1 man band from Germany that played a very raw and primal form of cold/atmospheric black metal and this is a review of their 2000 album "Winterkrieger" which was released by Folter Records.

Drum programming range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown in, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars, as for the synths when they are used briefly they have a very dark and evil sound to them.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast raw and primitive black metal riffs with some dark sounding melodies being thrown in at times and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording except for the last song, as for the acoustic guitars they are only used briefly to add another dark atmosphere to the music.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams with some deeper vocals being use on one song as well as a brief use of spoken word passages, while the lyrics cover winter, war, occultism and satanism with the songs being written in both English and German, as for the production it has a very raw, dark and primitive feel to it.

In my opinion Grond where a very good raw, cold and melodic sounding black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Carried By Deathwinds" "Battlemagic" and "On The Path Of The Ancient". RECOMMENDED BUY.
