Desolate Oasis/When Dreams Become Reality/Broken Limb Recordings/2012 CD Review

Desolate  Oasis  are  a  1  man  band  from  California  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  post  rock  and  shoegaze  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album   "When  Dreams  Become  Reality"  which  was  released  by  Broken  Limb  Recordings.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  playing  with only  a  small  amount  of  fast  drumming  and  blast  beats  being  present  on  this  recording,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  black  metal,  post  rock  and  shoegaze  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own a long  with  a  good  amount  of  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  post  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  use  finger  picking  to  enhance  the  dark  atmosphere  of  the  album.

Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  that  have  a  depressive  feel  to  them  at  times  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  being  used  at  times,  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  nature  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  Desolate  Oasis  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  black  metal,  post  rock  and  shoegazw  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Sun  In  The  Winter  Sky"  and  "Philophobia".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
