L'Homme Absurde Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We play in a fusion genre – mix of black metal, post rock and even have some influences of hardcore/punk. I think that we do it in mostly “American” way, those bands are more “hardcore” instead of European bands that more “metal”. This kind of music, black metal without corpsepaint, often called post black metal. But I think that it’s modern black metal itself.

2.So far you have released one ep and a full length, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?

Sound on EP (I prefer to call it “demo”) was really raw.. Quick recording, quick production – the main idea was to show people what we actually can. Full length, on the other hand, contains all of this “production” tricks, that become industry-standard today. It shouldn’t have to sound worse than other recordings in genre. And it doesn’t, I think.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Main lyrical theme of the whole album is social isolation, personal feelings about it and an attempt to escape from this world of monsters that people can sometimes be. Shortly, all of this emo stuff that girls like. And we like girls, that’s the point.

Seriously, we are talking about the isolation of evil in a global sense, such as religious fanatics, totalitarian governments or consumer society.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'l' Homme Absurde'?

It is the philosophical therm by Albert Camus for a person who understands the absence of the meaning of life except his own. Most of the band members like all of these grim existential books of Fyodor Dostoyevsky or Jean-Paul Sartre.

5.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Yes! Now we are rehearsing actively and I hope that we will be ready in the beginning of the next year to start playing local shows and I would like to have the opportunity to visit other countries with shows too.

6.Some of the band members also play in other bands, what are some of the things you are able to bring out musically with this band that you are not able to do with your other groups?

I and our guitar player Georgiy also playing in doom metal band Mare Infinitum. We like this music too, but it’s so slow – and we always wanted to make more aggressive and fast one. Looks like we’ve got it.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

There is not too much feedback for now, but I was pleasantly surprised with the positive reaction of black metal fans. I thought that they are more conservative.

8.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future/

It’s difficult to plan something right now because we need to understand what people actually think about our music. I want it to be an active band with touring opportunity and fresh ideas for new recordings.

9.What are some of the bands or musical projects that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I’m a fan of both European and USA scenes, most important bands for me now is Thranenkind and Ancst from Germany and Oathbreaker from Belgium. I also like most famous bands, Alcest or Deafheaven. And there is many less known but still great bands, like Earthmother from USA or Tongue from Germany.

10.What are some of your non musical interests?

I haven’t enough time for non-musical interests, I’m fully in this media production – I like video, photo and visual arts. Also I’m sound engineer/producer in studio.

11.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thanks for your attention, I hope that people will find our music interesting.

  1. Interesting intereview, listening intensely to this release, just published mine, I pointed out the same influences and tastes that they might have. This is a very professionnal release and they should be proud of the final product. However, I would have liked a more trimmed down album. lemotdumelomaniaque.blogspot.com
