The Reptilian Session Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
1. First of all, we are not exactly talking about a band, The Reptilian Session is an hybrid project conceived between a one-man band and a collective that takes part in an almost anonimous way. The attutide of a musical product, nowadays, is often labeled by the appearance of the authors themselves. Without any image of the people involved, the only reference that is given to the listener is the music itself, so we've decided not to spread our photos. Let's say that our facade is a monster that lives in a world created by our music and inspirations, the Lizard Lord.

2.How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?
2. Starting from square one, the musical sound is a violent black metal with influences from mid-tempo groovie riffs and crackling modular synths, alternating, the vibes of the rhythm. The entire album is recorded with analogic tecniques that gives to the music a warm and dusty sound, despite the glacial atmosphere of the whole record: basically, the eletricity is a physic component that characterizes our music.

3.A lot of your lyrics have some occult, reptilian, u.f.o's and conspiracy theory themes. can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?

3. The refusal of embracing the standard themes of the black metal and migrate them to unexplorated contexts, is our will to not taking part of a defined genre, so not submitting under the regime of labelling rules. The gateway of our lyrics is purely symbolic, its a logic that doesn't give room for external references ,the arguments comes, as the music itself, from outer space.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'The Reptilian Session'?
4. Well, the Reptilian is conceived as a constant presence that haunts the Earth, is something subliminal, intangible, that chases our footsteps until the end of the world and Session is just referred at the encounters of the people involved in this supernatural project.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
5. As I said before, there's not a stable line-up so things gets challenging in terms of arranging a quality gig. We received a lot of offers but for now our main goal is to make something that could last in time. Probably we'll go live when we'll have the certainty of giving the exact same atmosphere of the studio version.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
6. By referring to the last answer, no, not currently. Our current priority is to give birth to a new album.

7.The album was released on 'Dead Seed Productions', are you happy with the support that they have given you so far?
7. Absolutely, Dead Seed Productions did a great job and we couldn't be more satisfied than this. In addition to had printed the album in 500 vinyl copies, this label has been committed in spreading this record all over the Europe. I've faced a real high quality standard, in terms of professionality, considerably higher than the avrage.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
8. The hard work is paying off, but for the average metalhead we're still unknown; we received great feedbacks from some magazines but obviously we've to wait that our product will be consolidated in this music scene, in order to be taken in consideration.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

9. Nothing special, since the drummer left Fingernails and moved to France, he stopped playing with his main project, Chronic Hangover, (band that I suggest to listen to, that signed this year with Minotauro Records) and now The Reptilian Session is his only band.
In this hiatus, the guitarist is planning to start a new post-metal band, while he is also playing in some local metal bands.
As for me, since the splitting of my ex black/thrash metal band, called Vesper, I've started to entirely dedicate myself to this project and, sometimes, to other external collaborations.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
10. In our recording studio, for sure:
We are full of material on which we are working to, and, in a short time, we will record a new album, even this time, with the effort of Dead Seed Production. It will include a guest appeareance of his owner, as one of the guitars.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
11. Armagedda, Beherit and Katharsis are only some of the main influences that characterize the mould of our sound; we also got inspirated from outsider genres and bands, like Bauhaus (to which we've paid homage, reproposing "Double Dare" as a bonus track of this record's B-side). In short, we don't represent that kind of listener that doesn't go out from the boundaries of the black metal genre.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
 12. We thank you for the time you gave us and all the readers who had the intrest of reading our opinions.
The power of art is given by its supporters, and it is really thanks to them if we have the opportunity to give continuity to this project. A thing is certain: this is only the beginning!
